Plastic Surgery Costs for Men

The cost of plastic surgery for male patients tends to be more expensive as a whole than women in procedures that apply to both genders. Some people find it hard to conceptualize men and plastic surgery since it has long been women who have directly been associated with plastic surgery. However it is an increasing trend in popular plastic surgery procedures such as liposuction and laser hair removal. The cost of either procedure depends greatly on the area of the body to be treated because there are many factors that influence the prices. Generally it comes down to the amount of time and effort required of the surgeon, assuming all other things held equal, and since men are generally larger than women plastic surgery costs are higher for men.

The most common procedures that men request are liposuction to areas of the body where the fat is hard to lose through traditional exercise and dieting strategies. This includes areas of the abdomen and the sides commonly referred to as love-handles. The chest and the back are also common areas that male patients request liposuction treatment. While the male biological build makes their fat cells more fibrous than their female counterparts, the areas where men usually request the treatment contain the toughest fat cells of the entire body. This means more effort is required to break up and remove fat which means it will usually show up on the bill.

In laser hair removal for men, the same treatment area will usually be larger than it would be on women. This means more laser pulses and more time so regardless of how it is priced, some clinics price by time while others by the number of laser pulses, it usually ends up costing more for a typical male patient than the average female. Also, it is observable to many that hair follicles on men are thicker and therefore tougher to destroy than the hairs of most women. This is another reason that laser hair treatment will take longer and require more work for a man and thereby increasing the cost for such procedure.

While these are only two examples of the most common procedures and the reasons they will cost a male patient more than a female patient, this is obviously a very general take on the overall population as a whole and any individual considering any treatment should consult a surgeon for more personalized details. A board certified plastic surgeon can help ensure that the prospective patients know what they are getting into in terms of both the plastic surgery cost and the health risk and benefits that can be expected from the procedure.
