Laser Rhinoplasty

Most people know about rhinoplasty which is a cosmetic surgery procedure to correct the shape and size of a person’s nose and hence it is also known as a nose job. A nose job can be either an elective procedure or a medical procedure for people who actually suffer problems such as restricted breathing due to an injury or other events that might damage the nose. A relatively new treatment is laser rhinoplasty which is a non invasive treatment for the exterior of the patient’s nose.

What Is Laser Rhinoplasty

This non invasive rhinoplasty treatment is generally used to correct deformities on a patient’s nose caused by excessive skin growth. It is also commonly used to complement a surgical cosmetic rhinoplasty procedure or reconstructive rhinoplasty procedure at the tip of the nose to minimize the thickness of the skin in that area. Usually it is used to smooth the skin of a condition caused by bacteria growth in the pores of the skin which produces red bumps.

During the treatment the nose and surrounding areas will be numbed with local anesthesia. This allows the plastic surgeon to use the laser to cause damage to the unwanted skin. This is known as superficial damage since it was intentionally created to force the body to shed that layer of skin. When new skin replaces the treated skin cells the area has a healthy, youthful appearance. It is very important to be careful and follow the doctors care instruction after the treatment.

Eligibility for Laser Rhinoplasty

Laser rhinoplasty is a great treatment for skin conditions on the nose but is not for everyone as there are certain conditions that could cause negative reactions with the treatment. As with most procedures it is not for people with clotting disorders or imbalances in their body’s fluid content. This means people with diabetes or other insulin related conditions are not eligible for this type of laser treatment. Since it is purely a treatment for the skin of the nose, a person’s skin condition and skin type could disqualify them from receiving treatment as well. The consultation session with your plastic surgeon is a great time to discuss what procedures you are and are not qualified for.

Cost of Laser Rhinoplasty

Since it is technically still is a cosmetic procedure, laser rhinoplasty will not be covered by your medical insurance plan as it is classified an elective procedure. This laser nose job is great for thinning skin on the tip of the nose and revealing the healthy new skin under the old layer but the patient will have to cover their own bill. The average cost across the country is approximately $4,000 where it can range from $3,000 to $5,000 depending on various factors that commonly affect plastic surgery costs.

Anyone considering the procedure is recommended to contact their plastic surgeon for a consultation sessions. Laser rhinoplasty can be a great non invasive solution to some problems people might have with the skin of their nose.
