Chin Liposuction
Before chin liposuction became available there were other procedures that were used to eliminate or reduce the appearance of a double chin such as face lift or chin tuck. But laser liposuction offers a less invasive and more effective way to treat a double chin with reduced risk of side effects. Chin liposuction uses the laser assisted technology with the tumescent liposuction technique. It can eliminate a double chin, reduce the size of a patients chin, or simply enhance the contours of a person’s face.
Chin Liposuction Treatments
A double chin is often the result of weight gain but can also be a hereditary feature for some. While losing weight through traditional means such as exercise and dieting can help, it is often difficult to lose fat in the facial regions. Some patients undergo chin liposuction not only to remove a double chin but also to improve the contours of their face. A side effect of the surgery is a tightening of the skin around the treatment area. This is caused when the collagen under the skin contracts from exposure to the heat of the laser. The tighter and smoother skin resulting from laser liposuction is something that many patients greatly enjoy since it tends to make the patient appear healthier and more youthful.
The Surgical Procedure
The surgical procedure itself begins with the administration of local anesthesia to numb the area being treated. A small optic fiber carrying the laser pulse is inserted into the area where the fat is literally melted by the heat generated by the laser. Attached to the small optic fiber is a tiny cannula, or suction tube, which removes the liquefied fat from the body. The remaining fat that is not picked up by the cannula is removed naturally by the body’s waste cleansing system along with other bodily waste.
Chin Liposuction Costs
How much chin liposuction costs depends on a variety of factors typical to plastic surgery costs such as the size of the treatment, the amount of fat to be removed, and whether complementary treatment to the jaw line and other adjacent areas is necessary. The physical location of the plastic surgeon also influences the price depending on the demands of the cosmetic surgery market in that geographical region. The average chin liposuction prices will range around $2,500 to $5,000 or more. Other than the location factor, it generally boils down to the amount of time and effort required of the plastic surgeon.
Post Surgical Care
The great thing about this relatively new liposuction technique is that it minimizes the pain and risk of side effects or complications. With minimal damage to the tissue surrounding the treatment area, recovery is much less painful and faster than traditional methods of treatment. Some bruising and swelling of the chin is common but usually mild and goes away in a short period of time. Post surgical care often includes prescriptive medication to help patients dealing with discomfort and prevent infection around the incision area. A typical chin liposuction patient can expect to allow one week to rest before returning to normal daily activities.
